Nestled in the rugged hills of Calabria, the "toe" of the Italian "boot," the 10-hectare Garrubba estate was founded in 1937 when Cavaliere Giuseppe Garrubba settled here , and began to work with the native Greco Bianco and Gaglioppo grapes to make reds, whites and rose wines that express the soul of the beautiful, rugged, Calabria region.
Production is limited to 35,000 bottles annually of handcrafted wines. Today, the estate is managed by the Cavalier's two daughters; with Maria Cristina as administrative director and Patrizia handling sales and marketing. Vineyards are worked organically, harvest is copmletely by hand, and each variety is harvested separately at peak ripeness. Vinification is made with minimal intervention, and the reds are aged in French oak of various sizes. We're pleased to represent one of their flagship wines, the Ciro "Antico Sordillo," of 100% Gaglioppo grapes.
