Sierra de Gata
The Sierra de Gata is located in the northwest of the province of Cáceres, which is in the autonomous community of Extremadura. It borders with Portugal on the west in the area of the Portuguese Serra da Malcata Natural Reserve.
Once the Romans pulled out, this remote and wild area has been a border zone and refuge for centuries, its mountains protecting the Visigoths, Moors, Castilians, Portuguese and others. The climate is a mix of Atlantic, Mediterranean and Continental, with mild dry summers and cold, wet winters.
Vineyards with green cover in the Sierra de Gata
The granitic mountains of the Sistema Central (of which the Sierra de Gata is a part) provide mineral-rich soils for this unique terroir.
Requero & co
Descended from the family winery founded in 1873, Recuero & Co produces wines in the ancient territories of Guzquía in Toledo and in the Sierra de Gata in Extremadura. Since its founding, its objective has been to showcase and share wines designed for the enjoyment of wine lovers—unique wines that until recently were reserved for the winemakers themselves, as they had been for generations.
Jesus Requero
The Antier wines are grown in the Sierra de Gata where 5th-generation grower Jesus Requero continues the practice of traditional mountain viticulture with cover crops. Working with its forgotten small plots enclosed by stone walls, its old vineyards with blue granite soils where Piñuelo, Rufete, and Ojo de Liebre grapes stand out, Requero is producing wines of yesteryear, styled for today’s palate.
